Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a sharper brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After some time of discussions, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter field is vast, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Brinkman presently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
